Claire' story

Start here or see the diagram.

It was time to start making a choce

Edutcation system in China is quiet different from Canada. Student who is going to graduate from high school can not apply the univeristion directly. The only way to study university is to participate the National Matriculation Examination of China. For the study who wasn't the best, there was not too much choce for her.
Choice 1 Filling in a college application form
Choice 2: Went to College.
Choice 3: Gratuated from college .

Filling in a college application form.

Before the National Matriculation Examination, students had to fill a colleage application form to indication which university you like to study. She chose a 4 technical unviersty as her first proposal. The second proposal was a 3 years medical college.
Choice 1: Went to College.
Choice 2: Gratuated from college.
Choice 3: Found a first job.

She wasn't chosen by 4 year university

If students got the score which that university's line, they might be chosen by that universy. If students' score didn't reach that admission line or too many students applyed that major, students might be fell back from 4 years university to 3 years colleage. Obviously , she didn't have good luck. The university which she applyed didn't choose her to be its student since too many students apply that university. She had been fallen back to medical college. As soon as she got that admission notice, she felt so sad.
Choice 1: Went to College.
Choice 2: Gratuated from college.
Choice 3: Found a first job.

Went to College.

Unfortunity, She could not handle here dentiny since it was no way to change. She had to study the medical college which she got. In the college, she studied very hard because she wanted to be a good docotor. Almost all the time in college, she stayed at class and library. Two years later , she was the one of best study in her class.

Choice 1: Gratuated from college.
Choice 2: Found a first job.

Internship.

Finally , she finished all the course what she needed to study. The last thing she need to do was intership. She was assigned a hospital near her howntown. That is the biggest hospital in that city. In order to be a doctor, she was still working hard. As an intership student, she not only needed to learn skill from other doctors , but also she had to pass all the exam.

Choice 3: Ran away from her hometown.

Gratuated from college .

A year later, she went back to college with excellent score in internship. All docotors who worked with her were satisfying for her job. As the result , she gratuated from the medical college successfully. Although she grauted from medical colleage, thing was going well, she had to face another chanllege.

Choice 1: Ran away from her hometown
Choice 2: Found a first job.
Choice 3:Found a second job and first bonus.

All about "Guanxi".

In China , most of hospital are public. Normally, hospitals don't have right to hire students directly. The only way for gurated student is getting assgined from healty system, but reality was tough since the positions were not enough for so many students who just gratuated from colleages and univeristies. In this situation, students who wanted to find a job relied on their "Guanxi". "Guanxi" is a central idea in Chinese society. (More detail, please check https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guanxi)

Choice 1: Lost the job before she got the job.
Choice 2: Ran away from her hometown.
Choice 3: Found a first job.

Lost the job before she got the job.

Apparently, there was an exam for those students, but the score could be changed by power from politicians. For example , a student who lost the opportunity could get the opportunity again by their guanxi. Obviously, other students would lose that opoportunity. Although she was one the best score in these students, she lost that opportunity because of lack of "Guanxi".If there was no hospital that she could work at, she wasn't able to become a docotor in China. As a result, she lost the job before she got that job.

Choice 1: Found a first job.
Choice 2: Found a second job and first bonus.
Choice 3: bankruptcy and Lost the first job.

Ran away from her hometown.

She was very sad for the result. The reality was that she could not change anything. As a student who gratuaded from medical college, she could not find a job by herslef. She decided to run away from howntown because she didn't how to face her parents.

Choice 1: Found a first job.
Choice 2: Found a second job and first bonus.

The first job what she found was a sales of a medical company in China. It was a tiny company which only had 10 empoyees. The base wage was very low. It was just about $100 per month. The manager promised her the bonus if she sole the medical, but she never got it. even she didn't get the salary of first month since she was fired by a ridiculous excuse. At that moment , she realised that she felt into an job trap.

Choice 1: Found a second job and first bonus

Found a second job and first bonus.

2 months later, she got a job in a technical company. She had been trained as a technical to teach the employee of clinic to operate medical equitment. The funny thing was that she got the first bouns on the first day because it was International Women's Day in China. What she dit at this company is like what she will do after graduate from the colleage. First of all , she needed to put sensors of equitment to the body of patients. The medical machine detected the current of body, transformed to digital signal , then uploaded to host, host compared the data from patients with the data from database. Finally , its generated a report to doctor. It might indicate which case might be. Those reports could help docotor to analyse cases.

Choice 1:The conflict between her colleages.
Choice 2: bankruptcy and Lost the first job

The conflict between her colleages.

A friend and colleage who worked with her got into trouble since another colleage was going to sue her friend. The reason why her friend was going to be sued was that her firend hit another colleage by accident. A rumour was being spreading that they had conflicted for a long time.

Brainwave test may help diagnose autism

As a future Electro physiologist, also as an immigrant. It's very difficult to be a doctor which I used to be. I truly believes that it's impossible to be a doctor in Canada. I knew I should have recycled myself as early as possible. Since I am not the native English or French people, it's difficult to choose a major to study. Most of time, what I concern is that how to find a job after I graduate from college. When I am studying EEG, I keep asking myself what I could be.

Chart showing the increase in autism diagnosis.

Recently, I read an article from CBC news. It's talking about it may have new way to diagnose autism. That finding is that brainwave test may help diagnose autism. From this news, I noticed that there are about 1/68 children have been diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder. As we know, there is not efficient way to diagnose autism. This news tell us this major goal of this research is to develop measurements to diagnose disorder. This study shows that it's possible to measure the process speed to identify how serious the autism of children is. It says that information which response from the brain associated with autism. If they can find how the brain activities effects the brainwave, which means it will approach the goal if they could find the standard. It seems it's not an easy job. Some experts consider that study area is quiet small and it could not provide more evident to show if this theory is correct. They also believes that it may be helpful if they could overcome the challenge. More experts will be done in the future.

I hope that this study goes forward very soon. Not only my career will be much important, but also many children who have autism will be diagnosed earlier.

A glossary of terms for EEG findings

In order to read and provide report to patient, Electroencephalographers should know how to write a professional report. The glossary what I list are most commonly used by clinical eclectroencephalographers and proposal for the report form for the EGG findings. Since all report should be decribed as precisely as posible, the students or poeple who work in this field must know all of them.
Absence
Use of term discouraged when describing EEG patterns. Terms suggested, whenever appropriate: spike-and-slow-wave complex; 3/s spike-and-slow-wave complex; sharp-and-slowwave complex
Activation procedure
(1) Any procedure designed to enhance or elicit normal or abnormal EEG activity, especially paroxysmal activity. Examples: hyperventilation, photic stimulation, sleep, injection of convulsant drugs. (2) Induction of an EEG pattern consisting of a low voltage record which becomes apparent upon blocking of EEG rhythms by physiological or other stimuli such as electrical stimulation of the brain (use in this meaning discouraged).
Baseline
1) Strictly: line obtained when an identical voltage is applied to the two input terminals of an EEG ampli®er or when the instrument is in the calibrate position but no calibration signal is applied. (2) Loosely: imaginary line corresponding to the approximate mean values of the EEG activity assessed visually in an EEG derivation over a period of time.
Blocking
(1) Apparent, temporary obliteration of EEG rhythms in response to physiological or other stimuli such as electrical stimulation of the brain (see attenuation). (2) A condition of temporary unresponsiveness of the EEG ampli®er, caused by major overload. Manifested initially by extreme, ¯at-topped trace excursion(s) lasting up to a few seconds (see overload, clipping).
Channel
Complete system for the detection, ampli®cation and display of potential differences between a pair of electrodes. Comment: analog electroencephalographs generally have several EEG channels. Digital EEG machines simulate a multichannel display by tracing several voltage time plots on a visual display.
Coronal bipolar montage
A montage consisting of derivations from pairs of electrodes along coronal (transverse) linear arrays. Synonym: transverse bipolar montage.
Cycle
The complete sequence of potential changes undergone by individual components of a sequence of regularly repeated EEG waves or complexes.
Deep sleep
Non-REM sleep stages 3 and 4 (Rechtschaffen and Kales 1968).
EEG
Abbreviation for electroencephalogram, electroencephalography and electroencephalographic.
Impedance meter
An instrument used to measure impedance (see electrode impedance)
Paper speed
Velocity of movement of EEG paper. Expressed in centimeters per second (cm/s) or millimeters per second (m/s).

Epilepsy action

Epilepsy action

This website is about Epilepsy. It was found by a leading epilepsy organisation in UK. Its goal is improving the lives of everyone who is affected by Epilepsy. It takes care of people who have epilepsy disease. It provides advice and information to patients. This information includes video, tips for living with epilepsy. Not only online website, but also they developed apps for smart phones and tablets. This app gives a seizure diary and medicine reminder. It also publics magazine whose name is “Epilepsy Today". People can read it from Amazon Kindle in any tablet and smart phone. EEG (electroencephalogram) is the most efficient way to detect and dialogise the epilepsy. Even though I am a student of EEG, I have been well educated by this website. From this website I realised that I need to study harder to learn how to use medical equipment and practice my skills to help people who are suffering from there kinds of disease. if you want to visti this website , please click here

In this vedio , I am going to introduce this website.

3 Reasons to be an Electrophysiologist

A physician
This is Claire, an immigrant who came from China, who had dreamed that she would be a physician in China. Since she and her family didn't have strong human relationship in China, she could not be a physician although her grade in universality was good enough. Since then, she has been a medical sales representative for 5 years. She is a student who wants to be an electro-physiologist. She studies in Ahuntsic College in Montreal. Here are some reasons which she want to be an electro-physiologist.

1. Language issue

Almost immigrants who native language are not English or French has language issue, especially for those immigrants whose majors are not language. Claire is one of those people. Her major is Clinical Medicine. Even she didn't learn a lot of English during she was studying in university. Although she has been studying French for 2 years, she still feels that her French is not good enough. So, Claire decided to learn some program which doesn't require French extremely well and relates the major she has studied. Electro Physiology is that kind of course.

2. Job opportunities

As the immigrants who want to work at Canada, the most important thing is finding a first professional job. For immigrants whose communication skills is not good enough, it's tough to find a first professional job. Clinical Medicine, the major which she has studied in China is quiet different from Canadian. It cannot be transferred to here unless she studies it from scratch. So, she decided to choose the course which is pretty difficult and not very popular. The most important thing is that it's easy to find a job. She believed that Electro Physiology was that course which she wanted to learn.

3. She prefers to work in hospital environment

When she was child, she decided to be a physician. Claire thought she would be very happy when patients become healthy. When she was studying university, she had been working in hospital for 2 years. It became a habit of work in hospital environment. Also, it's much easies for her to learn those program because it relates to her major which she finished in China, so it's good thing to be a Physiologist.

Conclusion

As an immigrant, it doesn't have too much chose for her. As most people who have recycled themselves, she must recycle herself. Hopefully, it's right direction for her.
